Alberta Game Jam is a yearly event where people interested in the games industry get together and make a game within one weekend. It’s a great opportunity for new and veteran programmers, artists, musicians, writers and producers to learn and network.
While designing this logo, we knew we didn’t want any symbolism that was city specific. Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary are all hubs for AGJ and we didn’t want to feature one city while ignoring the rest. Eventually I focused on the Albertosaurus, which helps encompass the whole province. I also used some negative space within the dino mouth, which gives it more dimension.
STICKERS & ILLUSTRATIONS
Every Game Jam has a new theme that participants use as a jumping off point. For each year starting in 2020 when we moved online, I produced splash art that gave interpretations of the theme using the Albertosaurus mascots as the key feature.
I also created a sticker for the 2019 jam, as the meetup was in-person. There’s nothing worse than losing a file before saving, so I used that feeling to make a relatable reaction with the dinosaur.
